Free-motion Mastery in a Month In-Person Workshop with RaNae in NYC

Length: 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. / Optional add-on 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Skill Level: Beginner to Intermediate
Prerequisites: Basic quilting skills
Fee: Workshop: $125 per person / Evening at the Museum: $50

Join me in my home town of New York City and discover just how easy it is to learn free-motion quilting with the Free-Motion Mastery in a Month system! Kick-start your learning with a full day of in-person free-motion quilting instruction.

To check upcoming dates and enroll click here.

We'll begin the day learning how to set up your sewing machine for free-motion quilting. Then, starting with the 6 Basic Shapes, we'll do a graduated set of exercises -- both at and away from the machine -- that will teach you how to embed these basic shapes into your muscle memory and build any quilting pattern from them. You'll get lots of personal attention as you find your rhythm, adjust your technique and start quilting your quilt. You'll quilt just one block at a time, so there is no quilt top to ruin, no bulk to manage, and no special table required. And that all adds up to NO FEAR! :)

After lunch we'll continue quilting, then finish the afternoon with a hands-on demonstration of how to assemble pre-quilted blocks into a finished quilt.

You'll go home knowing exactly what and how to practice so that your free-motion quilting becomes natural, flowing and confident and you'll already be on your way!

Morning session: 9:00-12:00
Lunch break 12:00-1:00
Afternoon session 1:00-4:00

We'll be finished in time for you to visit NYC's newest quilt shop -- Gotham Quilts. Hidden in a corner of the garment district, it's sort of like NYC's "fabric speakeasy" with a carefully curated collection of exciting modern fabrics.

Optional add-on: Dinner and the Metropolitan Museum of Art

Join me at the end of the day for a delicious home-style dinner and an evening at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. We'll check out the current exhibitions and I'll share a few of my favorites from the permanent collection. At the end of the evening, we'll escort you to your car (or taxi) and see you safely on your way.

Workshop is limited to 16 students, so sign up early!

Please note: This class is for domestic sewing machines and sit-down longarms.
